Good, Bad or Ugly

Working with another person can be good, bad and even ugly. There are benefits of working with a classmate. Obstacles which you and your partner overcome or try to. You can also gain new understanding of the novel.

The benefits of working with a classmate can be good. You have someone to help you when you need it. For example my partner was stuck on how to make her question better. I gave her some advice but did not do the work for her. As partners you can work together to get things done faster because there is two people to do one thing and if you work as a team it will be done much faster. It is easier to do the work if it is shared. This is because both you and your partner are putting effort in to doing it. It can also make it easier because one person does not have to do all the work.

There can be many obstacles and problems that you might dump into. My partner and I had many problems as we went along. Some were fixable other not so fixable. For example we were trying to help each other. The only thing was that we did not understand that the other person meant. We solved it by talking on skype to figure it out. The thing that was a problem that we could not fix was that we were on at different times. This meant that if we needed to talk or tell the other person something at the last min we would not be able to do it.

You can gain new understanding of the book that you are reading. Reading through my partners work I could see what she thought of the the book. We have very different understandings of the book. To give you an example, she thinks that Jacob (the main character) is left by his family, when I think something completely different than her. This has come up in the literature circles quite often. It is amassing how almost everyone has a very different understanding of a book.

Partnering up might not be so bad. Working with another person might be challenging but if you work as a team it will be wroth the challenge.

Literature Circles

In a good discussion it can make us understand the book or topic more. If we made connection it can make a discussion lively and fun. Predictions can help you see what might happen next. These are the keys to a great literature circle discussion.

Discussing our literature circles helped me understand the books much better. It helped me because I could hear other peoples thoughts about the books. Sometimes they are different from yours and other times people can think the same as you. For example in our group people think very differently about the book that we are reading. It is always good to discuss a book with other people to get a better understanding of the book. You can do this even if you are not at school.

When we discuss our literature circles it is better to try and make connections to other peoples work, the book and what people talk about. You can do these by relating your life or your experiences to what you hear or read. It is good to do this because you can get new ideas and much more. It can also make the discussion much more interesting for everyone. Connections can be the fire to a enjoyable discussion. In school and in every day life.

In a group you can make many predictions about are book. Some are very imaginative, others are  obvious. It can be fun to find out what other people think about the book. Like when I thought Jacob was going to stay because of his granddad. When I read on I was proved wrong. It can be great if your prediction prove to be right. We should make predictions so that there is an excitement of finding out if you are wrong or right.

Making a literature circle might not be that fun but sometimes the discussions make it worth while. The fun of making a prediction or a connections is that you can share it with others. Discussions can sometimes make you understand a book more. literature circles are not so bad if you think about it because you get to discuss it in groups.

Comparing Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand

Papua New Guinea is less advanced and less wealthy than Australia and New Zealand due to many reasons. Australia and New Zealand have a greater connection to the outside world this and their resources helped them to become what they are today. Without these they would probably be just the same as Papua New Guinea. Even though Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand are in the same area they have different resources.

Papua New Guinea is isolated from the rest of the world due to its lack of resources. The world did not want much of what Papua New Guinea had to offer. For example they have lots of jungle but few have explored it. They only had manpower because their land did not have animals like cows or sheep but the Europeans and other countries did.The only problem was that they were not interested in their land because they had nothing to give them. Now in Papua New Guinea they do have the pig but it cannot be used for its coat or milk only the meat. This is the only animal that they have domesticated.

Their connection to the outside world was not good unlike Australia and New Zealand. They  also had an advantage Britain needed a place for prisons and Australia had enough room for them. Some of the prisoners that were let free stayed. This meant that the natives were pushed off of their land. The prisoners brought with them the knowledge of farming and many more trades. Papua New Guinea had nothing like this because they did not have the room and they only had the jungle.

In conclusion Papua New Guinea has remained largely undeveloped. Australia and New Zealand have become more western, because they had land for farming and greater connection to the outside word due to trade with Britain.

Mud skipper

Well it all started in a small pool my friends and I were looking for food. When we could feel the ground thumping, the kids were here to plant their mangrove saplings.OH no a foot was coming down on me I try to move but I was frozen with fear.  My friend pushed me out of the way. I watched him die in pain. The little child pulled his chubby leg out of the mud. My friend was no where to be seen.
I thought to me self just skip. So I went as fast as my body could take me in the opposite direction of the hole left by that little child. As I was going a long there were kids all over the place getting stuck. I felt a little sorry for them but their were probably taking the homes and lives of crabs and mud skippers. My heart pounded as I skipped a long the ground. Crabs were popping back in their holes.
I decided that I could not run from this problem every time the kids came to plant the tree saplings. I was going to try and find a better place to live. Another part of the swamp, the far end where the trees are high. I had to go back and try to save so crabs from the boots of the kids. The mud skippers from drowning in mud. What a great idea that was. I headed back to help and just like before a boot came over me it was over. I had at least tried to help. I guess it was just not my day to shine.
There were many unhappy people and creatures that day. The crabs in peoples boots, the mud skippers dying and the people how had to walk home in crab boot or mud skipper hair. Hopefully next time the kids come we will be ready for them and they for us.

The time I had courage

It all starts when I was six. We had gone on a summer holiday to Disney Land in America. Our family stayed there for a day or two to see all the sights of Disney and Universal Studios. Then we all took the gigantic silver train to San Diego for a beach and bay holiday , at the end of the week my Mum and Dad got married in La Jolla it was so exciting. We then spent the rest of the holiday on the Baja Coast if Mexico in a lovely white washed house on the beach.

There were so many great memories of that holiday but the thing I remember the most ,other than my Mum and Dad getting married was in Disney Land.It was the day we arrived. We had split up into little groups. All the girls and all the boys. We said that we would meat at lunch and tell each other what we did. When we met at lunch my brother told me all about this giant roller coaster. I got so jealous of him that I said I would have a try. What a big mistake that was! My brother led me to the roller coaster I wanted to run away but I couldn't.I had told my brother I would do it and he would laugh at me if I didn't do it. So I thought to myself if my brother did it I could do it. The palms of my hands were all sweaty and I knew it was because I was anxious and scared. Slowly I got onto the roller coaster. My heart was pounding in my chest. I tried to stay calm. Off we went going upside down, doing sharp turns right and left,  jolting forwards and speeding downhill as fast as a bullet. I loved it! What a ride!

When the ride was finish I went round looking for a bigger and better roller coaster. I didn't find one that I was allowed on.I was either to short or my Dad said no. I did manage to go on the same coaster two more times before my family got bored of waiting for me. I had been so scared that I almost didn't go on,and now I am the first in the queue when we go to the fairground and run to get on a roller coaster. I sort of have my brother to thank for my love of rides. I overcame my fear and had the courage to get on.

What do the artifacts tell us about the lives of early humans?

I think that the artifacts tell us a lot about early humans, the animals that they hunted and what kind of clothing they wore. They give us clues about rituals and ceremonies that may have taken place and an insight into daily life.

Artifacts can tell us what they ate because of the bones that they left behind around their fires and caves. We can form ideas about what they might have eaten from the tools and weapons they used to hunt small animals or even very large animals. Spear throwers have been found that  have been engraved very carefully. This could mean that this was a very important tool, possibly a good luck charm or the name of a clan. Clay sculptures are also very detailed these show the animals that were around and may have been used as clan names or during important ceremonies, like the coming of age of a child.

Tools have been found that were not only for hunting but for creating sculptures and cave drawings. The artists used sharpened stones, picks and engraving tools. They used grindstones to pound minerals which they mixed with animal fat or oil to make their colors. Early man also made brushes from moss, fur and hairpin their cave drawings as well as in their use of tools we can see that they were intelligent. That is what I think artifacts tell us about the lives of early humans.

Archeologist

Hi my name is Esme and I would love to become an archeologist. Wouldn’t it be excellent to dig in the earth and study things that we find to give as info about the past? Wouldn’t it also be nice to find different artifacts about a lost people and traveling to cool places?

Artifacts       Traveling              Digging

Digging in the earth is something I would love to do because I like to get dirty and feel the earth between my toes. Any job that lets me do this would be great. An archeologist is a great job for me because you can go to a site any where in the world just to study humans of the past. For me that would be great because I love to travel. I would love the excitement of finding an artifact. It would be cool to examine it to see what culture it mite of come from.
