What are the purposes of religion?

 Religion can mean many different thing to many different people. Religions can be similar in the way that they bring people together. Religions can give us answers to your questions about life, such as the question that all religions try to answer, what happens to us after we die. Religions can give us advice in times of need and unite people to over come obstacles.

This I Believe

 Listening to the This I Believe essays I heard many inspiring stories especially Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace. This essay was about the journey to mustering the courage to overcome an emotion tail spinner. This essay was written by Dani Weathers who is studying at Ohio State University and want to be a teen fiction author. She discussed that courage plays a big part in over coming obstacles in life. Dani believes that life is worth fitting for and we shouldn't give up because life is too precious to loose. 

 She tells us her story to show how her experience have helped her to become who she is today. Her story is about her struggle through her fathers death and how she copped through the situation. He first feels like when her dad dies that she had died too. Dani starts to cut her self in the hope that when she feels the pain of sharp object digging into her skin, she will be reminded that she is still alive. She started to hate people around which made her feel even more lonely than before. Dani Weathers finally came to her self when a former boyfriend shouted at her, "It happened four years ago! Get over it already! Just move on!" She realized that she couldn't continue to let cutting and depression control her life. After years of trying to mend her life by cutting, she was finally ready to start the real process of healing.

 I was drawn to this essay as to me courage is something everyone needs to help them overcome obstacles in life. Just like Dani, I have had to learn that sometimes we have to get over our fears and face them. It is never easy but with help from others everyone can face even the biggest of their fears. I feel that Dani Weathers discussed one of the most important lessons that everyone has to learn one way or another. "You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do. " By: Eleanor Roosevelt. I think this best describes Dani Weathers reason to write this essay.     

My DomiKnow Profile

In class we had to complete many different test to find out which profile we were. This was to help us learn more about ourselves and our teachers can learn more about our learning strengths and weaknesses. We learnt about which body parts were dominant and if we were a logic or a gestalt dominant learner. I turned out to be a logic dominant learner and a profile E. We all got to read about our profiles and learn more about ourselves. In the class we had a variety of profiles.

I am a verbal learner and I must talk about what is being taught in class in order to absorb it. I learn best when analysing and communicating through verbal or written, information. I think that this is true because I have seen this in class many times. It has proved right because I like taking part in discussions in class. The analysing is proved when I like to look over information again and again. This is so that I understand the information and remember it correctly.

I need to explore emotions and movement a little more than I do now. Drama is encouraging lots of emotions and movement which I find very fun and amusing. A balance of art and music skills will be help lots in opening the gestalt part of my brain. This with help me to learn much better and make me more relaxed. In class I should pay more attention to my  gut instincts and trust my intuition. Activities that can sometimes help with feeling or being stressed in class can be things like lazy 8's.

The strategies that will help me in my learning are things like brainstorming my ideas on paper. I also be part of a group that has the freedom to talk to learn.We had groups for our literature circles that we discussed are work. I think that I would like my teachers to let us work in groups . In these groups we could discussed what we were learning that day. I would like my teacher to know that I should sit further back in the class where I can write and talk without disturbing others. 

 I was very interested in how we found out about are learning profile at first. It was a fun way to find out about myself in class. The profiles were a great way to get to know how to improve or help yourself with your learning. Teachers can now help us on the things we need to improve on. When I first read my profile in class I was very surprised. Many traits I recognise, they were just like my traits. Even when I got home and read the profile to my family they could see that it was all like me!

Perseus, a young foolish man, the son of Zeus and Danae, has changed his life forever. He has accepted the challenge of King Polydectes to save his mother. He has to slay the gorgon, Medusa and bring her head to the King Polydectes as a wedding present.

Greek Mythology Videos

The Greek story about a famous architect, inventor, and craftsman called Daedalus and Icarus his son is one of the Greek stories I enjoy. It shows how Daedalus jealousy and wanting to be free got the better of him. He was jealousy of his nephew because he was very clever and his son Icarus was clumsy. Daedalus wanted to be free with his son and invented wings to fly but his son did not listen to this father and what he had to say. Theconsequences were fatal Icarus died trying to be free. If I had to choose if I enjoyed the characters or the story I would choose the story. The story is like a massage it can be received in different ways mean that people have different ways of looking at it. The story about the Miniature people die like Daedalus and Icarus's story. Icarus die's and his cousin and in the Miniature the Miniature die's and all the sacrifices. They both do have very unhappy endings is almost made me cry.

My Myth Trailer was about the Greek Myth of Pandora's Box. I started with the story of the two son's of Zeus and I carry on with the story of the box that Zeus gave Pandora. I named the movie trailer Pandora's Box because it want to focus on that story. I hope you enjoy it.

The End is Nearer Than I Expected...

In all of the commotion of 6th grade we have had fun, stressful, new, exciting, sad times. To me 6th grade has helped me as a person with learning and discovering more about my self. It had also been a journey that I have enjoyed with some of the people I know best at this school my class mates! They have encourage me to do things and helped me over come obstacles in school. I thank them for that and cannot wait to spend more time with them in 7th grade. Although I am excited to go home for the summer I will miss school and my friends.

This year a piece of work and learn that I am proud of would be the Power Point that I created with Nathaly and Alexia. We now know so much more about Ancient Indian and modern India. We learned about all the geographical features and how they helped the Civilization of Ancient India. The challenges about the project was that we found there was not enough time to finish the project in class so we had to arrange the group to meant after school to finish the Power Point. Another problem that we had was when Nathaly and I tried to combined our Power Points because we did not do it on google documents. The fonts were all different and so was the layout and it took us for ever to fix it (thanks Dad).

I have learnt so many things about my self as a learner. I know that stress for me is a weakness. At times I was coping with that stress every day. Now I know that I should communicate more with my teachers so that they know that I am stressing and so they can help to relieve some of that stress. When I do my work at home I like to plane things out so that I am not spending my whole day working. I also like to be organized not just at home but at school too. I like to know when projects are due or when things are needed so I can spread the work out evenly.

In 6th grade tried to be a model student I respect my teachers and my class mates and hope they respect and like me. I do what I am told and try best to behave appropriately in class and out of class. My participation in 6th grade I think is very good. I actively participate in class, I do my part and more when I am with partners or in a group. Organization is one of the things that I think I need to work on because it will help me with stress. I organization is satisfactory. I can forget things and I am sometimes only saved but looking in my planner. In work and everything I do in school I put in as much effort as I can and I always try to go above and beyond what is required of me.

Goal 1- In 7th grade, I plan to continue to put all my effort the work that I will be doing. I hope that I will also continue to Learn Enthusiastically with the new information that I will be given in 7th grade. I have enjoyed learning and I am sure I will next year too. Goal 2- In 7th grade, I plan to become more organized, in the way that plan my work so I can spread the work load I have and keep my stress down. I have to try and relax a little and communicate more with my teachers if I am struggling.

I would like my teachers to know that coming to this school has been a great experience. I have enjoyed all of my classes this year and the ones that I have especially loved were Drama, Humanities, and French. The reason I enjoyed Drama so much is because I love to act, I also love to make facial expressions. Although I found Humanities hard at first because of the work load I still, after getting stressed, enjoyed the dairies and learning about history. French has be amazing I am so excited about what I have learned this year I know more French than I thought and can't wait to practice in France this summer.

My favorite activity in Humanities this year is the our last Tic-Tac-Toe project. I enjoyed this project because I felt that it was more organized than the first time we did Tic-Tac-Toe. I also thought that my group did better at time management , we went to each others houses if we did not get all the work done that we had planned to do that day. Although I thought that we were too rushed our group had no time to practice our presentation in front off the class. This we because one our group planned all the work out for the 26th because that is when it was suppose to be and Alexia and I had Map Testing the day we were to practice.

Some advice I have for the class of 2018 is to have fun learning it is not that bad. The teachers are understanding but they are only understanding if you do your best work. The work load might be a hand full but you will get used to it. Try your best and put all your effort into all the work that you do. If you find that you are stressed too much don't hold it in because it will not help but if you tell people they will listen and they will try to help. You will have a great time,make new friends,learn without realizing it and you get to go on Malaysia week,which is awesome.

How I am like Will?

I think that I am like Will in a few different ways. The first way is that he was determined to take the watch and show it to his cousin Jack. This takes place in the first chapter on page 3 in The White Mountains. I am like Will because I am always determined to finish what I have started. In my old school we were racing and half way there, I tripped on a rock. I fell to the ground but instead of not finishing the racing I got up with a bloody knee and finished the race. I did not care about losing but I finished it for my team. My team did not come last or first but they appreciated that I had tried my best and that is all that mattered and that we all had fun!

The second way that I am like Will is that Jack and him had started to question the Tripods (Pg.12-13). I was naughty when I was little and I started to question my parents, as you can imagine they were not too happy with being questioned. It had started when I was three and I stole a cookie from my brother so I was sent to my room. As I was storming down the hall way in anger I thought this is not fare, my brother stole a cookie from me. When I reached my door I screamed out "No! I will not go to my room!". My mum was surprise I had never questioned her before, so she asked me why I would not go to my room. I was lucky that my mum was not a Tripod or I do not know what would happen.

My last connection to Will is that he had stared to become a little curious in the book (Pg.12-13) and that has happened to me too. When I lived in Scotland I was curious about what was behind a door in my loft. As I thought about it more the more I wanted to see what was on the other side of the door. I had to see what was on the other side so at night after I had been put to bed I snuck out of my bed with a flash light and climbed up the stairs into the loft. It was dark so I had to rely on my flash light. When I reached the door I opened it tying not to make a sound but in doing so my dad woke up and made me go back to bed. That is when I started thinking about the meaning of the saying The curiosity killed the cat.

Tunis Tunisia Reflection

The assignment for a few weeks ago was to make a power point on a city that we have lived in. We were to share it with the whole class after it as shared with our teacher on the computer. This was so he could check it and put it on the smart board when it was our turn. I chose Tunis for the project because at the time it was all over the news and it might be easier to get all the information. I lived there for two and a half years but my dad went a year before and stayed for a year after we left.

On my project I thought I did well on how I included the class by having a short quiz to see if they were paying attention. It did work because they new the answers to almost all the questions asked. This let me know that they were interested and listening to what I had to say. In my project I think I got enough information on each slide. I did five or more bullet points on each information slide. To make my power point more colourful and interesting I tried to pick a picture for every slide I made. To improve any projects or presentations in the future I could have made more information slides and less extra slides that I did not need. I think I should have spread the information out more evenly on the slides in my project. I could have had a different background on each slide. This would make my project more interesting to look at. In my quiz I could have put the answers after the questions came up. This would assure my class mates could see them on the board.

I have learnt from the preparation for my presentation that you have to have all our information before you start making the presentation. It is easier if you have the sours of the information, the pictures and the ULR's for them. It can help you if you also know what order your slides will be in. In addition listening to the presentations of others in my class I have learnt that it can be better if you bring notes. For an example I did not have notes and I a little lost. When doing a presentation you it can be good to evolve the class because it can be fun more fun than just listening. When you are talking to the class about you project it is good to know what you are talking about and you project your voice so people can hear you, even at the back row.

When I performed in the front of the class I go a little quite at some point but that was just my nerves getting the better of me. I could have had notes like I said before. In the note I could off had some information about what is all on the world news about Tunis. I could had been more enthusiastic about the moment. This was because I was shy when I got up in front of the class. I think I would had done much better if I faced my nerves and was more confident.

New Year's Resolutions

Resolutions

This Christmas I spent in KL with my family and friends. For this year I made two new year's resolutions. My two new years resolutions are doing my best in my class and not getting distracted in class. Second is doing my best in helping others. I chose these things because they are the things I need to work on in my life.  

 The first one is to try my best in all of my classes and not get distracted in class. To not focus on one class but to focus on all the classes so I can do my best in all the classes. If you only focus on one subject you can forget the others. All subjects can be important but sometimes it is good to think about all of them. Paying you fool attention in class is critical in different ways. It can affect your grades and your work. To me that is why trying your best in all your subjects is important and paying attention in class.

Second resolution is to help others as much as I can, at home and school. Helping others is vital because it is a kind and genres thing to do. Being helpful to others makes you fell good that you have helped someone in their everyday life. The people you help appreciate the help and it can mean that they will understand how to do it if there is no one there to help. I need to do this more because I feel it is important that everyone feels like they can do anything if they have a little help.

Holiday Snap Shots

During the holidays my cousins came from Muscat to spent Christmas with us. They came on the 21st of December and stayed for about eighteen days after that. My cousins are younger than my brother and I they are one, four and six. Roman is the youngest, Carmen is in the middle and Milo is the oldest. I shared a room with Carmen, Kane my brother shared with Milo and Roman shard a room with his parents.

Some of my most memorable moments of the Christmas holidays was the time we all went to the bird park. It was a hot and humid day, like most days. It was our first time going to the bird park and we took the GPS to help us. We made a few wrong turns and my Dad got a little angry with the GPS lady. We were all too excited when we got there to wait one more minute to get in. 


In the park we saw many different types of beautiful birds. There were love birds, peacocks, pelicans, pink flamingos and many more. They were also gorges and we took lots of moves and pictures. My mum, dad and I got a picture with birds on our laps and on our arms, I even got a bright red bird on my head. Kane, my brother was too scared of the birds and he was too embarrassed to be in the picture!

My second favourite snap shot of the holidays was when I got to see elephants and feed them  fruit. It was the second time I had seen an elephant up close. We went with my cousins and even my smallest cousin Roman fed an elephant. He went on my uncle's shoulder so the baby elephants could get the fruit from his hands. I thought it was very cute and took lots of pictures of my cousins and the elephants. Seeing that the elephants had a nice safe home was lovely to see.
